We’re spinning the big wheel…

After one year of projecting, the building application has been submitted! BeoPlast is planning to build the first large wind turbine in Langenfeld. On a 30 m high mast there is the 9.5 kW generator, driven by a 6.5 m large wind wheel. This constitutes a further keystone in our energy mix: purchase of green-energy in combination with our own photovoltaic and wind, coupled with high energy efficiency. When the sun is shining, the wind is mostly light. But when clouds cover the sun, the wind often blows. And at night you are dependent on wind anyway. BeoPlast, as a large energy consumer, also needs electricity on non-production days – for the standby operation of the machines, for the servers and, of course, for one or the other electro mobile.

Scope 1 & 2 completed, daring Scope 3

In carbon accounting, i.e. the systematic recording of CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions, these emissions are divided into three relevant groups. While Scope 1 refers to the emissions generated by combustion in our own plants, Scope 2 deals with emissions that are related to purchased energy (such as electricity, district heating). BeoPlast has successfully eliminated these emissions from the Scope 1 & 2 categories. Scope 3 covers emissions from services provided by third parties and acquired inputs. Here we would like to refer to our efforts to compensate for CO2 emissions due to business travels by our employees and goods transport. Our partner myclimate supported us in this way, so that we were able to compensate for our 200,000 kg of CO2 caused by our annual delivery traffic. We are therefore happy to support the myclimate project “Clean drinking water for schools and households through filter”.

We use energy sensibly. The waste heat from our compressors is used on the one hand for heating of the production hall and on the other hand via heat exchangers for heating the offices.

(Illustrative example: for the unused waste heat from our compressors, 45 containers (40-foot) would be filled with warm air per hour.)

BeoPlast Besgen GmbH is a so-called “downstream user” as a manufacturer of plastic products in the sense of REACH. Our customers are supplied exclusively with non-chemical products (goods). In addition, no substance is to be released from our customers’ products under normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions of use. Therefore, BeoPlast Besgen GmbH is neither subject to the registration requirement nor to the obligation to create safety data sheets.

In addition we will inform you, according to REACH – Art. 33, in case the chemical ingredients in our products (from a content of> 0.1%) are classified by the European chemicals agency (ECHA) to be of very high concern.

Irrespective of this, we are intensively pursuing the implementation of REACH on the part of our suppliers in our own interest and in order to ensure a high level of product safety for our customers. We are in close communication with our suppliers of chemical substances as well as preparations (e.g. raw materials, auxiliaries and materials for the production, treatment and processing of our products or application in other operational processes) and integrate the pre-registration or later registration of the relevant substances in REACH into our supplier qualification process.


Germany’s first climate-neutral production company of the industry

BeoPlast Besgen GmbH did various measures, to reduce the company-specific carbon footprint to Zero per annum.

For that, the renouncing of grey power, gas and diesel are key issues. Because of a extremely low residual value, it was possible to forego buying CO2-certificates.

BeoPlast is the only certified manufacturing company of the industry in Germany that has decreased its CO2 emissions to zero without purchasing any emission permits.

BeoPlast, as a resources consuming factory, is aware of its ecological responsibility. We are certified according to DIN EN ISO 14001:2004. An energy management system (EnMs) is at an implementation stage. Currently we have a 35% green energy share in our energy mix.

As of July 2014 we will use 100% green energy. The contracts are signed. It will be generated from running waters. More green is not possible. At the moment we’re working on reducing our carbon footprint. Our target is to reduce it to zero.

A fully automatic injection molding machine was put into operation in spring 2013. Apart from its highest level of quality, this machine reduces energy consumption by 30% and sound emissions by 90%. Curently we have four machines operative. This eliminates the sue of hydraulic oil and the environment relevant

The latest drying technology facilitates on the one hand careful treatment of granulates and on the other hand provides energy savings of 20% (installation summer 2013). An existing older machine was refurbished and equipped with the latest technology.

The roof of the factory is used for solar panels, which benefit “Charity Langenfeld”. The net profits are donated to projects from the Lions Club, e.g. dementia projects in Langenfeld.

The use of an electro mobile is in line with our environment-philosophy, to invest wherever technically and economically feasible. Therefore, the electro mobile simply makes sense. It saves CO2, where petrol driven vehicles damage the environment the most: on short distances! Our solar filling station can be used by our visitors during their stay at our company, free of charge.
